Shunryu Suzuki Roshi

Suzuki Roshi, 1904-1971, was an important Zen priest and teacher who founded San Francisco Zen Center. His teachings reveal the interdependence of the ultimate and the ordinary, guiding Zen practitioners to practice deeply while living in the world.

His dharma talks remain beautiful examples of down-to-earth expressions of subtle Zen teachings. Actual recordings of Suzuki Roshi's talks can be accessed at ShunryuSuzuki.com, a site created and maintained by one of his original students, David Chadwick. Transcripts and other information is accessible at David Chadwick's main site, cuke.com.

There are two books of Suzuki Roshi's lectures, including Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind, the most widely read book on Zen in the world. An audio version of the text, read by another of Suzuki Roshi's students, Peter Coyote, is also available. The texts are available at the Houston Zen Center.
